Gay people are especially empowered because we are able to identify with both sexes and can see into more than one world at once.

One of the major homosexual/shamanic functions in any society is to cross over between the two essentially different worlds and reveal them to each other.

The mission of BRIDGES Gallery is to give voice and vision to the imagination and insight of Gay and Lesbian photographer's throughout the world.

It is our belief that this vision has been fragmented by time, distance, and misunderstanding, and has now for the first time in history found a medium that can freely blend these disparate visions into one exquisite tapestry. This is a gallery with no borders and no government, so every artist who contributes is safe from reprisal and free to fully express themselves.

Bridges was chosen as the name of this gallery because we believe that as a result of their shared oppression, and the fact that Gays and Lesbians encompass the entire spectrum of all the diverse peoples of the world, Gay and Lesbian people are in a unique position to act as bridges connecting the many colors, cultures, religions, and sexes.

As Gay and Lesbian photographers, we have the special privilege of being visual interpreters and documentors of the inner world of our people, a world that can be shared to help heal each other and those who share this planet with us.
